Abercrombie's castle

For OHS people: I'm starting this site with some photographs taken in the early 1970's. You are looking at Abercrombies castle, located on route 134, North of Ossining. The concrete driveway was on the left as you went north and located just before you came to Allapartus Road.

A lot of people never knew about it, because it couldn't be seen behind all the large trees.

My understanding is that it still stands today. Rumor has it (and that's all it may be), that a small child drowned in a shallow swimming pool and that someone was struck by lightning on the roof. I don't know the dimensions of the living room, but it was quite spacious. A definite fixer upper, since one of the roofs burned down ruining the floor below it. Mr. Abercrombie was a structural engineer and did a beautiful job. One of his famous guests was Admiral Byrd.

The modest little home :-)) was later sold (or rented) to Smith Laboratories, which specialized in fertilizer research. Love to own it, but the heating bills and taxes would kill you. If I get more info, I'll add it later.

  1. I don't know if you even look at this blog anymore, or perhaps you'll get a notification when there is a comment posted.

I was hoping that you would consider being a little bit less specific about its location. The current owners have had significant problems with vandalism. Some local kids went to work with spray paint. To the best of my knowledge this is the only place on the web that says where it is located. The vandalism began to occur somewhere around 2009/2010.

Luckily, they were caught and prosecuted.

I'm not in a position to demand anything. I'd be hopeful that a polite request might yield a result.
